Test Principle
The pre-conditioned specimen is clamped in the test cell, nitrogen with stable relative humidity flows on one side of the specimen while a stream of dry nitrogen flows on the other side. Due to the humidity difference, water vapor permeates through the specimen from the high humidity side into the low humidity side, and is carried to the infrared sensor by the dry nitrogen flow. By analyzing the electrical signals generated by the water vapor, the sensor calculates the water vapor concentration and the water vapor transmission rate.

FAQs of Water Vapor Transmission Rate Test Systems:
Q: How does the Water Vapor Transmission Rate Test System measure permeability in materials?
A: The system uses both gravimetric (weight-based) and high-sensitivity electrolytic sensors to measure the rate at which water vapor passes through materials. Gravimetric analysis detects changes in specimen mass over time, while the electrolytic sensor continuously monitors vapor levels, providing dual-method validation.
Q: What types of materials and applications is this system suitable for?
A: This equipment is designed for films, packaging materials, and building materials, making it appropriate for use by manufacturers, exporters, and laboratories that require precise analysis of barrier properties and overall material quality.
Q: When should I perform calibration on the test system?
A: The system features an automatic built-in calibration protocol, which initiates as per the pre-set maintenance schedule or prior to critical tests. Calibration weights are provided to ensure continual measurement accuracy without manual intervention.
Q: Where can data from the test be exported or integrated?
A: Test data can be exported directly as CSV and XLS files, compatible with standard analysis software. Integration is supported via RS232 and Ethernet ports, facilitating connectivity with PCs and laboratory information management systems.
Q: What is the process for preparing samples for testing?
A: Sample preparation is conducted manually using included tools and sample holders. You will need to cut the material to 108 mm diameter, install it in the holder, and set up within the test chamber for analysis.
Q: How does the alarm function benefit users during operation?
A: The systems alarm function notifies users of over-temperature or humidity deviations, helping prevent inaccurate results and protecting both specimens and the equipment itself during sensitive test runs.
Q: What are the key benefits of using this fully automatic, benchtop WVTR system?
A: Key advantages include precise and rapid response time (<3 seconds), automatic humidity/temperature controls, multi-chamber capability, high throughput, and easy data management. Its robust design ensures reliability for routine use in production, research, or quality control settings.
