Principle
The pre-conditioned specimen is mounted in the gas diffusion cell as to form a sealed barrier between two chambers. The lower-pressure chamber is firstly evacuated, followed by the evacuation of the entire cell. A flow of gas is thereafter introduced into the evacuated higher-pressure chamber and a constant pressure difference is generated between two chambers. The gas permeates through the specimen from the higher pressure side into the lower side. The gas permeability and other barrier properties of the specimen can be obtained by monitoring the pressure changes in the lower chamber

FAQ's of Measuring thickness for Optimizing Oxygen Barrier Performance in Packaging:
Q: How does the Oxygen Transmission Rate Testing Machine measure thickness for oxygen barrier optimization?
A: The machine precisely measures film thickness using an automatic microcomputer-controlled system, allowing accurate evaluation of oxygen barrier performance in packaging. Its high-resolution sensor (0.001 mm resolution) ensures consistent and trustworthy results during oxygen transmittance testing.
Q: What standards does the oxygen transmittance test method comply with?
A: This equipment follows the coulometric sensor-based Oxygen Transmittance Test Method, compliant with ASTM D3985 and ISO 15105-2, ensuring internationally recognized accuracy and reliability of oxygen barrier measurements.
Q: When should I use the automatic calibration feature?
A: Automatic calibration with reference film should be performed before commencing a new series of measurements or whenever a change in testing conditions occurs. This guarantees measurement consistency and validity for each analysis.
Q: Where can I install or operate this testing machine?
A: Designed as a bench-top system with a compact 18 kg build, the testing machine is ideally suited for laboratory environments or on-site at packaging manufacturing facilities. On-site installation and setup service are available for additional convenience.
Q: What is the process for conducting an oxygen barrier performance test?
A: Insert your conditioned specimen (1-3 pieces, up to 80 mm x 80 mm) into the testing chamber. Select the desired testing atmosphere (air, nitrogen, or custom gas), set the test parameters (speed, stroke, temperature, and humidity), and initiate the test. Results are digitally recorded and can be transferred to PC software for further analysis.
Q: How does the equipment benefit packaging manufacturers?
A: Manufacturers gain precise control over oxygen barrier characteristics, leading to optimized shelf life and protection of packaged products. Automated data recording, high response time (1 sec), and large memory capacity (1,000 tests) improve workflow efficiency and data traceability.
